Summer is the season for effortless entertaining; long afternoons outdoors, shared plates and chilled bottles ready to be enjoyed. According to ALDI wine buyer and resident wine expert, Jason Bowyer, the key to great summer sipping is finding wines that are approachable, versatile and full of flavour.

ALDI’s latest summer range proves that high quality can come at great value, with vibrant, innovative wines and sparklings under $15.

Here’s how Jason recommends selecting the perfect warm-weather drop.

Match wine style to the ingredients and occasion

Start by thinking about what you’re serving or the mood you want to set. Light dishes like seafood, salads and fresh cheese boards come alive with crisp whites or gently effervescent sparklings.

ALDI’s Corte Carista Prosecco Spumante DOC (750ml, $11.99) is a bright, citrus-driven sparkle ideal for sun-soaked afternoons, while the Veuve Olivier Sparkling Wine (750ml, $8.99) adds soft fruit notes and a clean finish that works beautifully with warm-weather dishes.

Pick smart varietals that deliver flavour for value

Great-value wines don’t need to be simple or predictable. Varietals like Sauvignon Blanc, rosé and light-bodied reds are naturally vibrant, versatile and perfect for summer entertaining.

Try the Kaiora Bay Reserve Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (750 ml, $12.99) for bold tropical freshness, or the Corte Carista Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio (750 ml, $9.99) for a clean, pear-driven profile that delivers exceptional value.

Value and quality can absolutely go hand-in-hand

Behind many value wines is thoughtful sourcing and clever winemaking. ALDI’s range highlights how a modest price point can still deliver quality.

ALDI’s A.C. Byrne & Co. Sauvignon Blanc Semillon (750 ml, $8.99) is a balanced, fresh option at an everyday price, while South Point Estate Moscato (750 ml, $4.59) shows just how expressive and fruit-forward an affordable bottle can be.

You can even enjoy quality Champagne at an affordable price – ALDI’s Champagne Veuve Monsigny Brut (750 ml, $34.99) consistently over-delivers for its price, offering classic Champagne elegance without the premium price tag.

Pair with cheese, casual bites and summer flavours

For grazing tables, cheese boards or shared summer platters, lean into easy pairings.

A crisp white like ALDI’s The Birds & The Bees Organic Sauvignon Blanc (750 ml, $10.99) cuts beautifully through seafood, soft cheeses or fresh salads, delivering refreshing citrus and herb-driven notes.

If you’re leaning towards a savoury spread or charcuterie, a chilled glass of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc Rosé (750 ml, $9.99) brings bright berry notes and a clean, dry finish that keeps everything light and summery.

  • I got so excited to see some new fabulous bottle to try, and at such excellent prices, only to see it’s Aldi. I really, really hope in future the wonderful alcohol range can be sold in QLD. We miss out on so much. Next time I travel across Australia I’ll have to stop in and try it

  • I have been buying the prosecco from Aldi for a while now and it is one of my favourite bubbles ever. It is delicious and perfect to enjoy with friends and family especially over the holiday period. I have tried a few rose wines from Aldi as well but this prosecco is definitely my favourite. I highly recommend trying it if you haven’t already.

  • This is so helpful and ive got to mention how gorgeous the photos are in this article! It definitely puts me in the mood for some wine on a beautiful summers day! This is so great that Aldi has such a great range! I actually haven’t yet purchased alcohol from Aldi so I’m very interested to now go in and check them out!!

  • Affordability is such a big thing nowadays. We are all feeling the price increases across the board but still wanting to enjoy life, especially in the festive season. This is a very appropriate article. Aldi are really getting bigger in the market of late and have some really nice and affordable beers too. Well done.

  • I won’t lie, I have never bought alcohol from Aldi before, only groceries. My parents love the Aldi 4L cask red wine and but it regularly. After reading this article, it’s inspired me to try Aldi next time I’m purchasing a bottle. I never knew they had so many to choose from at such great prices! Win win!

  • It’s such a shame that QLD don’t have the alcohol section at ALDI and equivalent stores. These recommendations and the price points are extremely affordable.

  • I have to say over the years, ive been more and more impressed with what ALDI has been bringing out in their alcohol department. Although it’s quite limited and a small selection, they have some amazing options with some even winning awards! Just goes to show it’s not always about the price you pay that makes something delicious.
