Head Distiller Paul Peng has scoured every corner of the country, from the sandy shores of WA’s Margaret River to the verdant splendour of Tasmania’s midlands, to cram each calendar with 25 hand-picked bottles from Australia’s most intriguing, hard-to-find and downright brilliant distilleries.
From 1 December to Christmas morning, each day brings a new 30ml surprise behind a tiny cardboard door, complete with tasting notes and distillery deep-dives, wrapped in collectible designs by artist Parul Sen. Three mystery bottles add extra mischief to the mix for those who like their countdown with a twist.
This year’s whisky calendar packs in gems like Starward’s honeyed limited release ‘Honeycomb’, Backwoods’ Single Malt finished in a Laphroaig cask, and the island-born Furneaux ‘Sawyers Bay Unpeated’ from Flinders Island, alongside wildcards like Manly Spirits’ Ginger Beer Cask.
The gin calendar leans fresh and adventurous with drops like Patient Wolf’s ‘Summer Thyme Gin’, Imbue’s citrus-bright Yuzu Gin, and Margaret River favourite Grove Strawberry Gin, with curveballs including Puss & Mew’s Spiced Turkish Delight Gin. Each calendar is a tour through Australia’s distilling frontier: a mix of cult-favourite drops, upstart newcomers and one-off experiments that may never be seen again.
Whether you’re a diehard dram devotee or a gin lover with a sense of adventure, these cult calendars are the ultimate way to toast the silly season, one sip at a time.
