Fancy the idea of a vineyard stay with sunset views and Pinot planted metres from your bed? Wineglass Bay Estate and its on-site vineyard, Kitty’s Mistake, are making it all possible.
A vineyard with its own luxury stay
Set on Tasmania’s East Coast near Freycinet National Park, Wineglass Bay Estate will offer a limited number of architect-designed retreats right on the waterfront. Think private decks, sunset views and the kind of quiet that pairs beautifully with a quality drop.
On occasion, you might even catch the natural phenomenon of Tasmania’s auroras.

Rather than overt flashiness, the accommodation is a careful balance of luxury and landscape. It’s the sort of place that feels right at home amidst Tasmania’s striking east coast environment.
“The intention was to create a stay that sits quietly within its environment, offering the comfort and considered detail of a five-star hotel, with the privacy and space more often associated with a private stay.”
Kim Alfeldi, Owner of Wineglass Bay Estate
Huge windows let the view do its thing, and warm interior tones welcome with open arms. Modern amenities are all checked off, and a private deck makes the perfect place for unwinding with a glass.
It’s a sanctuary of stillness. And the vineyard is just outside.
Meet Kitty’s Mistake
Woven into the luxury stay is Kitty’s Mistake, the on-site vineyard planted right within the estate grounds.
The grape focus is firmly on Pinot Noir, a variety that thrives in Tasmania’s cool maritime climate. The vines cover a hectare of the ground at Wineglass Bay and are painstakingly tended by the team.

The name Kitty’s Mistake comes from local coastal history. And while no one knows whether Kitty was in fact a woman or a boat, she undoubtedly “landed somewhere unforgettable,” as written on the website.
Cool-climate wine meets experiential tourism
As Tasmania’s reputation for cool-climate wine continues to draw travellers from across Australia and beyond, demand for experience-led travel is also on the rise.
Wineglass Bay Estate taps into both, pairing luxury stays with an on-site vineyard for a wine escape that goes beyond the cellar door.
