Launching in Flinders Lane this month, Melbourne Winery is bringing the cellar door to the CDB with a completely new kind of wine experience, vineyard-free.

Founded by a group of hospitality professionals, the venue is a big step away from classic winery experiences involving long drives, rustic buildings and rolling hills.

Melbourne Winery is proudly fashion-forward and urban, aiming to redefine how Melburnians and city guests engage with wine.

“Melbourne Winery isn’t about tradition – it’s about transformation. We’re creating a space where people don’t just drink wine, they engage with it. Every bottle tells a story, and we’re giving our guests the chance to be a part of it.”

Melbourne Winery spokesperson

Melbourne Winery spans 552.5 square metres and includes bar and dining areas, a wine lab, a cheese room, an oyster bar and rotating art exhibitions.

A huge wine range

As part of its initial range, Melbourne Winery will host 32 varietals across three distinct collections:

  • Essentials: staples you’ll reach for again and again
  • Elevated Classics: for the moments that call for just a little more
  • Indulgence: for when only the best will do

Each bottle features a photographic label with its own story, inviting guests to step into the narrative and choose the wine that reflects how they feel.

“Melbourne Winery is about storytelling. Just like art, wine is subjective, everyone experiences it slightly differently. The way you experience wine is completely unique to you, and this space gives you the freedom to discover that.”

Modern Australian menus

While wine is the heart of Melbourne Winery, food plays an important part in the concept, with each menu expertly designed to complement the wines.

“We’re not here to tell people how to appreciate wine. We’re here to create an experience that lets them engage with it in a new way. Wine isn’t just about taste – it’s about the atmosphere, the stories it carries and the full sensory journey it inspires.”

  • I really must get round to visiting a winery. A winery tour is on my bucket list, hopefully with my mum. One day when money issues settle down a bit

  • Part of the charm of visiting wineries is the scenery, but I do understand that this is the next best thing for people who just don’t have the time to travel to the vineyards. The venue itself is very flash and I think it has been designed very well indeed.

  • Oh my goodness, this is so Melbourne and I absolutely love it! What a fabulous idea. Most often when I get the chance to get to Melbourne it isn’t for a stay long enough to really get out of the city, so I love this idea. And a cheese cellar, my oh my. Good luck rolling me out of here

  • Would most definitely be worth a visit next time we are in Melbourne. Great concept, especially for tourist on a tight time schedule that can’t get out to the wine regions. Would make an awesome day out for a hens day as well. This will be going on our to do list for sure.

  • What a beautiful and flash looking venue. I love that they had chosen the city area so that more people can enjoy it. I would love to visit there if I lived closer to Melbourne, it looks like an experience you shouldn’t miss out on going to. The entire place looks stunning and very inviting.

  • Absolutely stunning venue! Just when I thought you couldnt do anymore in the melbourne CBD, something pops up like this that is seriously incredible. It would make a fantastic space for social gatherings and events. Agree, great wine that goes well with great food is a match made in heaven for the best experience.
